Gourmet Take-Out at Coastal Cravings in the Outer Banks

Driving up to Coastal Cravings in Duck, NC
While we are, like many of you, on a budget for our vacation, it was important for us to try some new and unique places, and we cooked most of our meals in to allow us the occasional splurge.  Like many of you,  I use sites like Trip Advisor and Yelp to see what other real people say about restaurants when I am looking at places to go in a new area. While restaurant reviews are a lot like movie reviews, very subjective, you can usually tell whether a restaurant is worth giving a try or the review can help you break a tie between two places you might be considering.  In our case I used these resources to help identify places we might want to try while on vacation. They also help you determine the places that are kid-friendly, those that are meant for a special night out,or which are local haunts with good food and reasonable prices.

Not your typical take-out menu
The Ultimate Brie-L-T
Crabcake Sandwich and Fries
As I was reading reviews of places in the Southern Shores/Duck area where we were staying, I read about a shop called Coastal Provisions that also offered a drive-through, and after reading about 5 glowing reviews for their signature Brie-L-T sandwich, I knew we would have to  check this out. One day for lunch my daughter and her husband took orders and went to bring food home.  The menu is online so we could decide ahead, and we tried to order a variety of things.  Of course the Brie-L-T was on my list, but other family members ordered the house roast beef and cheddar, the fish and chips and my daughter, who is very carb conscious ordered the Howard's Craving salad.  Located in Duck, NC, Coastal Cravings is a a cute little place that is open from 7AM for breakfast through about 9 PM for those days when you come off the beach and just don't want to cook.  The food was ready when they got there and I had to fight off hungry family to get some pictures. The Ultimate Brie L T was just outstanding, the crabcake sandwich had lots of meat and little filler, the fish and chips was outstanding, fresh fish fried lightly, and the roast beef and cheddar and salad were a hit as well.  There were no leftovers at all, and everyone felt that Coastal Cravings was a hit- delicious food with a gourmet twist at a reasonable price!  We are hoping to get there soon and try out their breakfast menu that includes a crabcake breakfast sandwich and a lobster benny- lobster benedict sandwich that sounds amazing.  If you are in Duck, give Coastal Cravings a try- you won't be disappointed!
